The University of Nigeria has caused outrage after the video has gone viral, showing that students are touched to see if they wear bras before participating in the exam.

The university has not yet commented on the video, but the student leader defended the bra policy as part of an institution’s dress code aimed at maintaining a “without distraction environment”.

However, he acknowledged that other ways to apply a policy, which was convicted by critics as archaic, sexist and resembling sexual assault.

A senior employee of the Human Rights Network campaign network told the BBC that students could sue the university for breaching their rights.

“The unjustified touches on another person’s body is a violation and can lead to legal action. The university is wrong to accept this method to limit indecent dress,” said Haruna Ayagi.

A student who did not want to be baptized, told the BBC that the university imposed a strict moral code, although it was not a religious institution.

She said their clothes are always checked.

In response to a protest, the President of the University Student Union, Muizz Olatunji, told X that the university encouraged a “dress policy aimed at maintaining a respectful and distraction environment, encouraging students to dress modestly and in accordance with the values ​​of the institution.”

He added that the policy is not new and the Union has “engaged with the institution to research alternative approaches to dealing with obscene dress, focusing on respectful and decent interactions between students and employees.”

He also publishes a dress code that includes a ban on any clothing, “capable of doing the same or opposite sex of lust in the student in an obscene way.”

The university was founded in 1982 as a State University of Ogun when Olabi Obandjo was a state governor. It was renamed after him in 2001.
