Apple is expanding its age rating system for apples. The company said on Thursday that it updated its age rating system to add 13+, 16+ and 18+ ratings on the existing slate of 4+ and 9+ ratings and removed ranges of 12+ and 17+ ages. Also, application developers will need to answer a new set of age rating questions to help identify sensitive content in their application. Developers will be able to update one of the new options to their applications of their applications if needed.
The agency says it has automatically updated all applications and games across the App Store to align the new system, which is available in the Beta version of IOS 26, iPados 26, Macos Taho 26, TVS 26, Vision 26, and Watch 26. The public beta has been live yesterday, and the general publication will roll out to all customers this September.
As part of the updated system, the developers will need to inform Apple about their application control and application capacity, answer questions about treatments and well -being, and to reveal whether they have violent themes in their application or game. Apple will then calculate the appropriate age rating, which developers can view and correct the App Store connection.
Ratings have been intended to give parents more specific directions about applications that their children want to download and will prevent children from installing their age limit. On behalf of Apple, the editorial stories on the App Store, today, games and apps tabs will not be displayed specific applications if they are not age-applied for the child using the device.
Extending age range is part of the widespread update around Child Protection Initiative has been announced earlier this year. For parents, Apple is making it easier to set up child accounts and share information about their children’s age. This data will be shared with the app developers to help provide age-applied content. (Some changes for child accounts were first provided in the public bit of 18.4 at the beginning of this year)
App Store Products Lists will also be updated to include more information to help parents guide their decisions or games to guide their children or adolescents. For example, Guardians will be notified if the user-manufactured materials or ads in the app are featured, both young children can express adult content. Also, if an app provides the built -in parent control, they will be notified.
Increasing the age rating of the app can reduce its visibility and distribution, which can encourage app developers to introduce parents control or other age-applied experiences.

The App Store Change appears as legal disputes are in both states and in both cases Federal Levels about how children should be protected online by introducing the United States New bills and laws App Store Operators will need to check the age of children to get parents consent for apps download. Apple and Google would prefer that app manufacturers themselves operate the age-trading process but greater technology companies like meta There is Plan To verify for app stores.
The solution to Apple is a system that provides a developer API that will protect the child’s personal information on their birth date, which provides access to the age limit required to properly customize their application. Since this information is provided by parents when setting up a new device, children are more likely to be right than they enter directly into their birthday or age, because kids can lie about their age to access the full experience of an app.
But to work, developers have to choose to integrate with the new API.
