Apple’s CEO Tim Cook Cook Texas Governor Greg Abbott called for a new passed law to change or veto the law that would require a company to verify the age of the device owners, According to the Wall Street JournalThe
Abbott has not yet signed the bill. However, along with Google, Apple is working with groups interested in fighting the law. Apple especially argues that implementation of Texas Bill may be a threat to the user’s privacy.
The bill commands that if a minor uses a device, their App Store account should be tied to their parents, so that parents are notified about the download of minors’ app and they are requested to approach or deny them.
A spokesman for Apple told WSGE, “If implemented, app marketplaces should collect and keep sensitive personal identification data for every textplace who wants to download the app, even an app that simply provides weather updates or sports scores,”.
Those who say in support of the bill say it will allow parents to apply more control over the relationship between children and their smartphones.
At least nine states are seeing similar laws. Apple was able to close a bill from passing Louisia last year, although the state is now revising the bill.
