The Arm of the Public Semiconductor Company will start making its own chips this year after landing a high-profile enterprise customer.
The arm, which is originally owned by the softbank, Meta has signed now to start making one’s own chips As customer according to the Financial Times. The chip is expected to be CPU for servers in large data centers and can be customized for different customers. The arm’s production will outsource.
The Financial Times also said the first in-house arm chip will be unveiled early this summer.
This is a significant change in the semiconductor company strategy, which usually licenses chip blueprints in companies like Apple and Nvidia. Creating its own chips will turn some of its existing customers into competitors.
TechCrunch has reached the meta and arm for comment and if we hear it back to update the story.
