At least eight dead in an accident with hot air balloon in Brazil

At least eight people were killed in an incident with a hot air balloon in Brazil, a state governor said.

There were 21 people aboard the balloon in the town of Prai Grande on Saturday morning, said Santa Catarina Governor Jorginho Melo in a publication at X.

Melo said 13 people survived and eight died. Rescue crews are at the scene of the incident looking for others, he said.

“We are all shocked by the accident,” he added.

“Our teams continue to provide all the necessary support to families and victims.

“We continue to monitor the situation.”
