At least three dead after the Russian bridge collapsed on the train

At least seven people were killed after a highway bridge collapsed on the railway tracks in Russia near the border of Ukraine, according to emergency services.

The bridge in Bryansk removed several heavy trucks to a moving passenger train until it collapsed, with 31 people being injured.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russian said fire and rescue units were trying to find people traveling on the train.

In a statement published in Telegram, Moscow Railway claimed that the bridge collapsed “as a result of unlawful intervention in transport operations.”

“Unfortunately, there are seven casualties,” said local governor Alexander the Virgin on Telegram, adding that two people – including a child – were “seriously injured”.

All the wounded passengers were taken to medical establishments in the area of ​​Bryansk, he added.

The interregional prosecutor of transport in Moscow said an investigation was launched.

Authorities said the train locomotive and several cars were derailed when the road bridge fell on it late Saturday night.

Photos online showed cut carriages and passengers to help each other climb from the remains in the dark.

Additional emergency workers, as well as rescue equipment and lightweight towers to work at night, were sent to the area, according to the Russian news agency TAS.

The train was going from the town of Klimovo to Moscow and was in the Vigonian area when the crash happened, staff said

The passengers were evacuated and targeted at a meeting place in the nearby station, said Moscow Railway, and added: “They will be able to continue their journey on a specially shaped reserve train,” traveling from Bryansk to Moscow.

The incident took place about 100 km (62 miles) from the border of Ukraine.
