Several flights to and from the Indonesian resort island Bali have been canceled or delayed after one of the most active volcanoes in the country exploded.

Mount Levabi Laki-Laki on Flores Island dumped ash tower more than 11 km (6.8 miles) in the sky at 17:35 local time (10:35 BST) on Tuesday, according to the country’s volcanology agency.

There were no reports of victims. Authorities have raised the highest level of warning and advised residents to avoid activities within 7 km around the crater.

Air India, Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Juneyao Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia were among those who canceled flights to and from Bali west of Flores.

Flight data from I GUSTI NGurah Rai International Airport at noon on Wednesday show that over 20 flights have been canceled due to the volcano.

Several bits of AirAsia’s home fields leaving for Flores have also been canceled.

The double rotation volcano erupted many times in November, killing nine people and forcing thousands to escape.

The head of the Geology Agency, Mohammed Wafid, warned of potential floods in Lahar – a type of mud or a flow of volcanic materials – if there is heavy rain.

Residents were also called to wear face masks to protect themselves from volcanic ash.

The National Disaster Sitting Agency said at least one village was evacuated, and several others were reported in several others outside the exclusion zone.

A spokesman called on the residents around the volcano “to evacuate to safe places” as tremors are still being detected, which shows current volcanic activity.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, where tectonic plates collide, causing frequent volcanic activity as well as earthquakes.

The last eruption of Lewotobi Laki-Laki was in May, when authorities also raised the level to the heaviest.

Laki-Laki, which means “man” in Indonesian, is twinned with a more calm but higher 1.703 million named Pempuan, the Indonesian word for “woman”.
