BbcAn international network of spammers publishes AI -generated images of Holocaust Victims on Facebook, an investigation by the BBC for “AI Slop” has found.
Organizations dedicated to preserving the Holocaust memory say the images leave survivors and families difficult.
They also criticized the Meta of Facebook’s mother company, saying it allows the users of their platform to turn cruelty into an “emotional game”.
There is only a handful of real photos from the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II.
But in recent months, AI Spammers have published fake images that are thought to be inside the camp, as a prisoner playing violin or lovers encountered on the borders of fences – attracting tens of thousands of likes and shares.
“We have someone here who invent the stories … for some strange emotional game that is happening on social media,” said Powell Sauzky, a spokesman for the Auschwitz Memorial in Poland.
“It’s not a game. It’s a real world, real sufferings and real people we want and should mention.”

The BBC has followed many of these images in a networking network accounts based on Pakistan, who carefully cooperate with how to make money on Facebook. They are the META (CM) Meta Monthics Program, a “invitation only” system that pays users for high -efficiency content and views.
An account named Abdul Mugi, referred to as a living in Pakistan, publishes screenshots that claim to have won $ 20,000 through schemes for providing social media monetization, including Meta’s. Another publication seems to show over 1.2 billion content of content throughout the four months.

Among the many Facebook posts from the ABDul Mughes account are several AI -generated photos of fictional Holocaust victims and fake stories that include a child hiding under boards or a baby left on train tracks outside a concentration camp.
The BBC analysis of the account online activities and dozens of others, as they suggest they publish almost extremely “AI SLOPP”.
The term refers to low quality AI images and text, usually produced in large volumes and spam in social media.
Auschwitz has become a popular topic for pages and groups of thematic stories. Some with names such as “harmless tales” and “History Haven” have published more than 50 times a day.
In June, the Auschwitz Museum warned stories like these theft of his posts, processing them through AI models and often distorting historical details or making stories and victims entirely. In a Facebook publication, the museum said these images are a “dangerous distortion”, which “neglects victims and harasses their memory.”
FacebookSawicki said that the tsunami of fake images undermines the mission of the Auschwitz Memorial to raise the awareness of the Holocaust.
“We have already started receiving comments in our Facebook posts that” Oh, this is a photo generated by AI, “he said.
The survivors and families are also concerned about the Holocaust Ai Slip Holocaust, according to an organization promoting education and studies of the Holocaust.
“They do not fully understand what they see,” said Dr. Robert Williams of the International Union to commemorate the Holocaust.
He said the survivors of the Holocaust are experiencing a “certain sense of sadness, it is allowed to happen”, despite government and philanthropic investment in awareness campaigns.
“They think their efforts were not enough,” he said.
“This is a very sad thing to take into account because the last of the survivors will soon leave us.”
META does not deliberately encourage users to publish false stories, including the Holocaust, and its system rewards high -commitment publications. The BBC has also opened AI SLIP accounts based in India, Vietnam, Thailand and Nigeria.

To understand why these networks are mass production of specific content, the BBC talks to the Pakistani man Fazal Rahman, who is recorded in several schemes for providing monetization of the content of social media and says
As he says that he himself does not create any images of the Holocaust and does not know what the word means when he was initially asked, he works in the same Facebook groups as the ones he does.
Mr. Rahman said a Facebook page with 300,000 followers could win its owner $ 1,000 a month, if there is a “premium content” provided to the higher value of the UK, the US and Europe. He estimates that Western views cost eight times more than Asia.
He said the story as a topic is a reliable engine of online traffic.
Other creators seem to agree. BBC has seen step -by -step instructions videos about how popular AI models can be used to generate continuous fake images and text.
In a video, the creator asked AI Chatbot to list key historical events that could use as a basis to create content and was given the Holocaust as one of his answers.
Other tips given by some creators include tips on how to mislead the audience, with their page presenting themselves for other audience construction organizations and eligible for the META CM program.
Facebook has a page transparency feature that allows users to track previous page names. Using this, the BBC found many pages that had published AI Holocaust AI, which had once been a number of different entities, including official fire departments in the United States, commercial companies and American influences – all without their consent.
These pages, according to public publications, can also be sold or hired to those who want to penetrate the content creators market.
FacebookThe BBC asked META about several accounts that have posted Holocaust AI and also seemed to have been involved in fraudulent practices.
Several profiles and groups were removed, including those originally marked by the Auschwitz Memorial in June.
A spokesman for the technology giant said that while these fake images did not violate his content policies, he examined them and found that they had violated his rules surrounding the presentation or pages.
“We have removed the pages and groups shared with us and deactivated the accounts behind them to violate our spam policies and non -authentic behavior,” they said.
AI has been used in the past to mark the Holocaust and revive the stories of true victims, but the international alliance for commemoration of the Holocaust of D -R Williams warns that there is a risk that it can contribute to the feeling that the history of the Holocaust has been made in some way.
“Any form of extreme manipulation is something we need to deviate from,” he said.
