Belgian police are looking for armed men after a shooting reported in front of a metro station in downtown Brussels.
CCTV footage shows at least two men carrying balaclava and bearing what looked like Kalashnikov’s weapons at the entrance of Clemenso Station in the Belgian capital on Wednesday.
Video from the scene shows an exchange of fire around 6:15 local time (05:15 GMT).
Sarah Fredericks, a police spokesman in Brussels, said the suspects had fled to the metro station and could still be in the subway tunnels.
The spokesman said there was no injury to the shooting. Both local police and federal railway police search the area.
Police are looking for “a small group of people, probably two or three persons,” said G -ja Fredericks, adding that they could still be armed and that the police did not want to take any risks.
The Clémenceau station is closed, as is the nearby Brussels Station, which also serves as a Terminal for Eurostar trains.
Two metro lines serving the center of Brussels are also suspended by Gare de l’uest to Cretne, which is close to the European Parliament.
Belgian media reports suggest that events may be related to drug trafficking. The area around Brussels-Midi has long had a reputation for violence and crime.
The tram lines were also broken, namely between Lemonnier and Berkendael.
Thousands of travelers were affected by the incident that took place during the morning of the PIC. There is no indication of when normal service can be resumed.
