The temptation with the down jackets is that you get the hottest one. If you spend the winter time in North Wisconsin as I did when I did these things, it’s not a bad idea. But if you are looking for a bit overly warm during the shoulder season or even looking for high height summer backpacking, you don’t need to get 800 filling, lots of overshoded winter paranas.

We advise to stick with the jackets A Down Fill Power Rating For at least 500 for light use, but if you do not go out at the bottom of the frozen tempo (or you are a Cool) Get a light jacket if you basically spend your time on the less extreme climate.

Also remember, in backpacking, you would like to remember how much a jacket is packaged and how much weight it adds to your pack. Unfortunately, the lightest jackets continue to be higher filled energy, since you can trap more warmth down, but again you are realistic about the temperature you are going and you can escape with a cheap jacket.
