A soldier in the UK, accused of raping a woman near a controversial base of the British Army in Kenya, has allegedly attacked a British citizen, not Kenya, the Ministry of Defense (Mo) confirmed.

In a statement, the military said the man was arrested and sent back to the UK after the alleged incident last month near the British Army Department in Kenya (Batuk).

The claim is being investigated by the military in the UK, which has a jurisdiction on the issue and does not include Kenyan police.

The alleged rape is the most claim for a violation against British soldiers in Batuk, which is near the town of Nanyuki about 200 km (125 miles) north of the capital of Kenya, Nairobi.

A spokesman said: “We can confirm the arrest of a British service in Kenya in connection with a report on a sexual crime. The person of the service is repatriated in the UK and the victim is a British adult, not a Kenya.

“The issue is the subject of a continuing investigation from the UK’s serious crime command, in accordance with the UK and Kenya defense cooperation agreement, and we will not comment further.”

Previously, a soldier in the UK was accused of killing a local woman Agnes Vanjiru, whose body was found discarded in a septic tank in 2012.

The United Kingdom said it collaborated with a Kenyan investigation into her death.

The Batuk base was established in 1964 shortly after the East African nation gained independence from the United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom has an agreement with Kenya, which can extend to six Army battalions annually for periods of study.

But the British army faces a series of claims about the behavior of some staff in the UK in the camp.

A public investigation, created by the Kenyan MPs last year, listened to details of the alleged abuse of locals from British soldiers.

The allegations included a reported incident of strikes and running, as well as allegations that some British soldiers became pregnant with local women before giving up their children when they returned to the UK.
