Portugal is in mourning after at least 17 people died and about 20 others were injured when Lisbon’s famous railway cable derailed on Wednesday night.

Among the killed worker is a transportation, while a three -year -old German boy is reported to have escaped minor injuries.

These injuries include four Portuguese and 11 foreign citizens from Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Canada, South Korea, Morocco and Cape Verde, according to emergency services.

Police have not yet confirmed the identity of the dead, but here’s what we know about the victims.

Seven men and eight women are among the dead, and foreigners, Margarida Castro Martins, head of the Lisbon Civil Protection Agency, said Thursday.

Some foreign citizens were also killed, but from where they were, it remained unclear.

The Portuguese Transport Union Sitra said Andre Jorge Gonsalvs Marquez, who works as a braking guard of the funicular, He was among the dead.

In a statement on Facebook, the Union writes: “We send our condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the accident and wish them a quick recovery, as well as the best recovery of the others injured in the accident.”

Ms. Martins said the wounded included 12 women and seven men between the ages of 24 and 65 and a three-year-old child.

Local media reported that a German family of three was aboard the funicular when it collapsed.

The father died at the scene, the Portuguese newsletter reported, who reported while the mother was said to be in a critical condition in a hospital and a three -year -old boy suffered minor injuries.

Flóary Funicular can carry about 40 passengers and is extremely popular with tourists – but it is also crucial to the residents of the city to help them travel up and on the hilly streets of Lisbon.
