Parents in China are offered 3600 yuan (375 pounds; $ 500) per year for each of their children under the age of three in the first national government subsidy aimed at raising birth rates.

The country is one of the most expensive places in the world to have children in a relative terms, according to a study by the China-based population Institute in China.
Raising a child up to the age of 17 in China cost an average of $ 75,700, the study found.
In January, official data show that China’s population fell for the third consecutive year in 2024.
