Clashes continue as deaths rise and thousands are distracted

The beating between Thailand and Cambodia entered the second day on Friday, killing at least 16 people and displacing tens of thousands, as world leaders call for the cessation of fire.

On Thursday, intensive battles broke out at a controversial border, marking a dramatic escalation of the dispute between the two neighbors from Southeast Asia, which has been dating more than a century.

In a letter to the Council on Thursday, Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Manet called for him to intervene to “stop the aggression of Thailand.”

Thailand and Cambodia accused the other of launching the first shots on Thursday.

Thailand claims that the clash began with Cambodia’s military drones to monitor Thai troops near the border.

Cambodia says Thai soldiers have initiated the conflict when they violated a preliminary agreement by advanced in Homer-Hindu-Hindu near the border.
