The United Kingdom Prime Minister Kayer Starmer has announced a plan for four points to work with Ukraine to end war and protect the country from Russia.

The United Kingdom, France and other countries will strengthen their efforts in the Coalition of Desire and strive to include the United States in their support for Ukraine, he said.

“We are at a crossroads in history today,” Starmer said after a meeting at the top of 18 leaders – mainly from Europe and including Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, who said Ukraine is experiencing “strong support” and the summit showed “European unity at an extremely high level, which is not visible for a long time.”

Comes two days after Fire exchange between Ukrainian leader and US President Donald Trump in the White House.

“We are all working together in Europe to find a basis for cooperation with America for real peace and guaranteed security,” Zelenski said after the summit.

Speaking at a press conference shortly after the leader meeting, Starmer said four points were agreed:

  • In order to maintain military assistance in Ukraine and continue to increase economic pressure on Russia
  • that every lasting peace must ensure that Ukraine’s sovereignty and security must be present on any peace negotiations
  • In case of peace
  • to develop a “coalition of desire” to protect a deal in Ukraine and to guarantee peace after

“We need to learn from the mistakes of the past. We cannot accept a weak deal that Russia can break with ease, instead every transaction must be supported by force,” he said.

The Prime Minister does not state which countries have agreed to join this coalition of desire, but said that those who have committed themselves will increase planning with real urgency.

The United Kingdom, he said, will support his commitment to Earth boots and planes in the air.

“Europe has to make a heavy lift,” he said, before adding that the agreement will need us and must include Russia, but that Moscow cannot be allowed to dictate conditions.

“Let me know, we agree with Trump about the urgent need for lasting peace. Now we have to deliver together,” said Sir Keyer.

Asked if the US under Trump were an unreliable ally, he said, “No one wanted to see what happened last Friday, but I do not accept that the US is an unreliable ally.”

The countries of the summit included France, Poland, Sweden, Turkey, Norway, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, Finland, Italy, Spain and Canada.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said there is now an urgent need to “reassure Europe”.

These moods were voiced by NATO Secretary General Mark Rute, who said the meeting had seen European countries “come” to make sure that Ukraine has what it needs to “stay in the battle, as long as it continues.”

Earlier on Sunday, US Department of Finance Secretary, Scott Bensten, warned a deal to minerals between the US and Ukraine could not be signed “without a peaceful deal” with Russia.

But to the BBC’s question about the future of the deal after the summit, Zelenski said he was ready to be signed.

“The agreement on the table will be signed if the parties are ready,” he said.
