Maafi’s publicist confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the star was killed in California on Friday after being diagnosed with cancer.
The star was known for her work in television series, including desperate hosts, young Sheldon and Big Sky.
In a statement provided to Variety, Maafi Joseph Kel’s husband said he “lost the love of my life, and America lost one of its most dear actresses.”
“She will be missed,” he said.
On Facebook, the couple’s daughter Alice wrote: “I have no words to say right now. Cancer is nasty. I’ll look for you in all the fun moments of life. I know you will be there.”

Her success in Primetima came after a daily Emmy prize in the previous decade for her role in doctors, a soap opera, which aired from 1979-1981.
She also appeared in several films, including Sully and Seabiscuit.
Recent roles have included appearance as Madame Reynard in the movie “French Exit” in 2020, for which she was nominated for an independent spirit award.
