Disney is confronted with US investigations into DEI practices

The US government agency, which regulates television, says it is opening an investigation into the Disney diversity and inclusion practices, and in the last sign of pressure, it applies to media companies.

Federal Communication Commission Chairman (FCC) Brendan Car letter Until Disney on Friday, notification of the company and its ABC news unit of the plan.

He said this move was triggered by fears that the company encouraged the diversity “in a way that does not correspond to” government regulation.

A Disney spokesman said the company was reviewing the letter.

“We look forward to committing to the Commission to answer his questions,” a Disney spokesman said in a statement.

The FCC investigation into Disney also comes against the backdrop of a broader repression of DEI practices by the Trump Administration, with the effects being felt beyond the United States.

French companies with US government contracts received a letter from the US Embassy in France this week, asking them to enter and comply with Trump’s executive order prohibiting DEI programs.

The order, the letter says, “refers to all providers and service providers of the US government, regardless of their nationality and the country in which they work.”

In a letter addressed to Robert Iger, Disney CEO, FCC Chairman Car, said he wanted to ensure that the media company “terminates all discriminatory initiatives in essence, not just a name”.

He added: “I want to determine if Disney’s actions – whether they continue or have recently been completed – they are observed at any time with applicable FCC provisions.”

Carr has been a FCC member since 2017 and was appointed to lead the Trump Agency in November.

Ever since he was appointed to the publication, he has increased the control of media companies by launching NPR and PBs probes and requires information from major technology companies, including Apple and Google, to use them for services that influence how news articles are ranked.

FCC has also announced investigations by Verizon and Comcast and its media unit, NBCuniversal for their initiatives for diversity, justice and inclusion (DEI).

Disney, best known for his animation classics and themed parks, made changes to his Dei policies earlier this year.

“As I saw reports that Disney recently responded to some of his Dei programs, there were significant concerns,” Carr wrote in the letter.

“I want to guarantee that Disney and ABC do not violate FCC’s equal employment rules by promoting unscrupulous forms of DEI discrimination,” he said.

Carr said he wanted information about the rules governing the diversity’s representation in his characters, among other initiatives.

The investigation is not the first time Disney has been a political goal.

Last year, she agreed to pay $ 15 million to arrange a defamation case brought by Donald Trump after star’s ABC host falsely stated that the president was found “responsible for rape.”

The New York hearing has previously determined Trump to be responsible for “sexual abuse”, which has a specific definition under the New York Act.

Republican governor of Florida Ron Ron Ron also spent years in enmity with Disney after the company criticized a state law known as “don’t say gay”, which limited the teaching of sexuality in schools.

Earlier Disney was the goal of conservatives for claiming to be perceived “awakened” messages in their films.
