Dozens of missing in Indian Himalaya Avalanche

At least 25 passengers remain trapped after a massive avalanche struck a remote border in the northern Indian state of Ukrakhand, said officials.

Senior district official Sandeep Tiwari told the BBC Hindi that 32 workers were rescued and moved to an army camp nearby.

The avalanche of the camp has hit the camp of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) in the village of Mana, which shares a border with Tibet, employees say.

Officials have said that rescue operations continue at an exceptional time against the background of heavy snowfall.

Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami’s Chief Minister wrote to X that the rescue work is done by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), BRO and other teams.

Emergency rooms and emergency teams have been sent, but the insidious conditions continue to be challenges to rescuers.

Earlier on Friday, the India meteorological department warned of heavy rainfall and snow in the northern Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Utarakhand, as well as in Jammu and Kashmir.

The orange signals have also been issued for snowfall in several areas of Himachal Pradesh and Jamu and Kashmir.
