Shooting at a nightclub in Ecuador killed eight people and wounds three more, police said.
Authorities were summoned to the property of Santa Lucia in the early hours of Sunday morning, where they found seven people who had already died after gunners opened fire. The eighth man died in hospital.
Police said the shooting motive remained unclear.
Santa Lucia is a small town in the coastal province of Guyas, one of the four provinces that are currently under an emergency in an attempt to limit the band’s violence.
Among the dead was the owner of the nightclub, who was the brother of Santa Mayor Lucia Ubado Urkizo, according to AFP news agency and local media.
The Facebook page of the local authorities offered condolences to the mayor after the death of his brother, writing “We join respect and solidarity with their grief, raising our prayers that they could find power and comfort during this difficult moment.”
The shooting is the most native of a number of violent attacks in Guaa. Nine People were shot in a pool hall On July 19 and another 17 were killed in a bar On July 27.
Ecuador President Daniel Noboa declared war against the band’s crime in January 2024, but violence continued despite increased military presence.
