Fire absorbs the main scene of the Tomorrowland festival

A fire destroyed the main stage of the Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium, just two days before the event was opened.

“Due to a serious incident and fire on the main stage of Tomorrowland, our favorite main scene is very damaged,” the organizers of the festival on Wednesday night said.

The statement said that no one was injured during the flame, the reason remains unclear.

The Electronic Dance Music Festival is due on Friday in Boom, south of Antwerp, with 400,000 people expected to attend two weekends.

The fire began around 6:00 pm local time (16:00) on Wednesday. Videos, posted on social media, showed a thick gray smoke that absorbs the scene.

Firefighters are working to stop flames reaching neighboring homes and forests. Some residents are evacuated.

In an update posted on the festival website, the organizers said the campsite will still open on Thursday as planned, and that the focus is “on finding festival weekend solutions.”
