Five ice hockey players who are not to blame for the sexual assault case in Canada

Five Canadian ice hockey, accused of sexual assault on a woman, were justified by an Ontario judge on Thursday.

In an overcrowded courtroom, justice Maria Carokia examined the testimony and evidence of the eight -week -old processes highlighted for several hours before announcing men not to be guilty.

Former players of Canada’s world hockey team have been accused of attacking a woman known as EM in a 2018 hotel room in London, Ontario, where they attended Hockey Canada Gala.

Justice Carokia said it did not find EM evidence “credible or reliable”. She added that “the crown cannot meet its weight in any of the issue before me.”

The central question of the process was whether EM, who was 20 at the time, agreed to every sexual act in the room that evening.

Player’s lawyers claim that she has asked men to have sex with her and they believe she agrees.

Michael McLeod, Dylan Dub, Cal Fute, Alex Fortuman and Carter Hart were all players with the National Hockey League (NHL) when the accusations floated, although in Europe it was played in Europe. Only one, Hart, testifies in his defense.

The process attracted considerable attention to Canada, and so many people attended the court to hear the decision on Thursday that the officials had to open two additional transfusion rooms.

Explaining his decision, Karokia’s justice pointed out inconsistencies in EM’s testimony, including who bought drinks that night, and said that EM’s statements reflect a “uncertain memory”, which did not in line with the evidence presented in the process.

There were differences in what the woman said to police investigators and those about hockey Canada who arranged a $ 3.5 million court process ($ 2.5 million; $ 1.9 million) for an undisclosed amount in 2022, the judge said.

The process shared two videos of the incident where EM was recorded, giving her consent to the activities. The first is taken without her knowledge.

While according to Canadian law, videos did not establish agreement, the judge said they had shown that they were “talking normally, smiling” and that she “seems to be out of trouble”. This undermines the argument of the crown that Em did not leave the room out of fear, she said.

It is unclear whether the crown will appeal the decision, with prosecutor Megan Cunningham saying in a statement that they will carefully review the decision. She also said that they had received “dozens of messages from people from Canada and abroad”, expressing thanks and support for them.

“Successful persecution is not measured solely by whether there are guilty sentences at the end,” she said. “The purpose of the crown during this procedure was to see a fair process, a process that is fair to the accused men, and the one who is also fair to them.”

During the process, the crown claims that the woman’s testimony is reliable, that “intoxication is not equal to unreliability” and that any inconsistencies in her testimony are insignificant.

They also claim that the woman has no motive to come up with a story and that she initially reported the alleged police attack in 2018, four years before she filed a lawsuit against Hockey Canada.

They added that the text messages between the players claimed show that it was the idea of G -n -McLeod to invite their teammates to the room and that the players who were allegedly committed to “make their story straight” by drawing up a story that EM has agreed to all sexual activity.

However, defense lawyers claim that EM’s testimony was undermined by evidence of eyewitnesses, which were other players in the hotel room tonight but were not accused, they said it was “vowel” for what he wanted sexually.
