Five soldiers were injured in a firing incident in Fort Stewart, a military base in the US state Georgia, staff confirmed.
The military base said a suspect was arrested and the wounded soldiers were treated on the spot before being moved to hospital for further treatment. It remains unclear how serious the injuries are.
There is no longer a threat to the community, staff said, although they did not provide further details about the weapon.
The shooting was held about 240 miles (386 km) southeast of Atlanta.
A video shared on social media shows that military officials are being evacuated from the stage.
The law enforcement agencies were signaled for shooting at 10:56 EST (15:56 GMT) and the weapon was detained at 11:35 EST.
White House press secretary Carolyn Levitt said President Donald Trump had been informed in the shooting.
“The White House is following the situation,” she wrote in a post of X.
Atlanta’s FBI office said they were aware of the incident.
Georgia Governor Brian Camp said he was in “close contact” with law enforcement.
“We keep the victims, their families, and all those who respond to the call to serve in their hearts and prayers, and we ask the Georgians to do the same everywhere,” he said.
The Congressman Be Carter, whose area includes Fort Stewart, said he was “watching the situation”.
“Please join me in prayers for the victims, their families and the brave law enforcement officers who work to protect our community,” he wrote on Twitter.
