In France, the maximum punishment for such a crime is 30 years, Indonesia Minister of Human Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra told Reuters.

It is up to Paris to provide “reconciliation, amnesty or reduced sentence,” he said.

Atlaui told his family that he did not want to meet them at the airport, his wife said.

“He wants to see his family again when he is free,” she told RTL. “Unfortunately, we don’t know how long it will take.”
