George Wend, who starred in the role of Norm Peterson in the popular comedy series, cheers, died at the age of 76.

The beloved actor and comedian died quietly in his sleep at his home early on Tuesday morning, his family announced.

“George was a family family, a well -loved friend and confidant of all those who are lucky enough to know him. He will be missed forever,” a representative told the BBC.

Wendt participated as a norm in all 275 episodes of cheers, which took place in 1982-93. He won six consecutive Emmy nominations for an exceptional supporting actor in a comedy series.

Wend Norm’s character was a regular bar and was one of the few characters who appear in every episode of cheers.

His entrance to the bar was a running bluff in the show, starting with him to congratulate the other patrons, followed by the crowd, screaming his name.

Wedt reunited with some of the cast of the 75th First Emmy Awards in 2024, including Ted Danson, Rea Perlman, Kelsey Gramer and John Ratzenberger.

In addition to the NBC sitcom, Wendt appeared in several films such as Dreamscape, Forever Young and Gung Ho.

He also appeared as the father of a boy played by McAlay Culkin in Michael Jackson’s black or white music video, which was released in 1991.

He has been married to his colleague actor Bernadet Birket since 1978, with whom he has three children.

He was also the uncle of actor and comedian Jason Sudeikis, who is recently known for playing the main character in sports comedy Ted Lasso.

The healed Ted Danson co-star told People magazine that he was “devastated to hear that Georgie is no longer with us.”

“I send all my love for Bernadette and the children,” he said. “It will take me a long time to get used to it. I love you, Georgie.”

Cheers Boston, the pub that inspired the hit television show, paid tribute by sharing a photo of the Norm’s place at the Instagram bar.

“George was not just an actor – he was a symbol of comfort, laughter and that familiar feeling to get into a place where everyone knows your name,” they said.

“To George: Thank you for the laughs, memories and heritage you leave behind. You will always have a chair in our bar.”

Actress Melissa Joan Hart was thinking about a handful of working together in the show Sabrina, the teenage witch.

“He was warm, professional and kind and our cast and crew were endowed with their presence every time. Rest in peace!” She wrote on Instagram.

“The sky just got a little more ridiculous.”
