MYSTIC campAn eight -year -old girl and director of all girls’ summer camp is among the victims of lightning floods in Texas who have taken at least 43 lives, including 15 children.
Officials claim that most victims were identified, although the identity of six adults and a child remained unknown. Authorities have not yet released any names publicly.
Here’s what we know so far about the victims.
The eight -year -old Renee Smail was at the Mistic camp when the flood went through the summer camp for girls, her uncle said in a Facebook post.
“Renee was found, and although not the result we were praying for, social media information may have helped the first answers to help identify it so quickly,” writes Sean Salta of Maryland.
“We are grateful that she was with her friends and had the time of her life, as she can see from this photo from yesterday,” he writes. “She will forever live her best life in Camp Mystic.”
Camp Mystic, where 27 children are missing, is an almost centuries -old Christian summer camp for girls on the shores of the Guadalupe River near Hunt, Texas.
Operated by generations of the same family from the 1930s, the camp’s website is cultivating themselves as a place for girls to grow “spiritually” in a “healthy” Christian atmosphere “to develop exceptional personal qualities and self-esteem.”
The heart of the hillsHeart O ‘The Hills is another camp for all girls sitting along the Guadalupe River and was right on the way of the flood on Friday.
Jane Ragsdale, described as Heart O’Hills’ Heart and Soul, “didn’t,” a post on the official camp’s official website said on Saturday.
Ragsdale, who started as a camper, then an advisor, became the director and co -owner of the camp in 1976.
“We mourn the loss of a woman who influenced countless lives and was the definition of strong and powerful,” said the camp website.
Heart O ‘Hills was not in a session and “most of those who were at the camp at the time were reported and in a high place,” the statement said.
“Access to the site is difficult and the authorities are focused mainly on finding the missing and preventing more loss of life and property.”
MYSTIC campSarah Marsh, a student at Cherokee Bend Primary School in Texas, would enter third grade in August.
She also visited the Mistic camp when the floods hit and reported missing, along with about two dozen other camps.
Her grandmother Debbie Ford Marsh went on Facebook on Friday with prayers for prayers. Only hours later, she shared online that her granddaughter was among the murdered girls.
“We will always feel blessed that we have had this beautiful shiny beam of light in our lives. It will live in our hearts forever!” D -Ja Ford Marsh wrote on Facebook.
In a Facebook post, Alabama Senator Katie Britt said he was breaking her heart because of the loss of Sarah Marsh and we keep her family in our thoughts and prayers during this unthinkable time. “
Nine -year -old Lila Bonner, a native of Dallas, was found dead after a flood near Mystic bearing, according to NBC News.
“In the midst of our unimaginable grief, we ask for confidentiality and we cannot confirm any details at the moment,” her family said in a statement to the newsletter.
“We hurt with all who loved her and pray endlessly.”
