The Swiss Mountain village is buried in a stream of ice, mud and rock after much of the birch glacier collapsed into the valley below.

The village of Blade, which was evacuated by approximately 300 inhabitants a few days ago, was overwhelmed by thousands of tons of mud and ice on Wednesday.

Global warming causes glaciers to melt faster. In the meantime, eternal freezing – often described as the adhesive that holds the high mountains together – also thaw.

One person has been reported to have disappeared and many homes are flattened.
