A senior Hamas employee said that “there is no sense” in more talks about a new deal to end the fire of gas and hostages after Israel said he would expand his offensive and occupy the gas for an indefinite time.
Basm Naim told the BBC that the Palestinian armed group would not engage in new proposals, while Israel continued what he called a “hunger war.”
Israel says his goal is to return the hostages, still held by Hamas and his “dismantling and decisive defeat.”
Israeli officials said on Monday that plans include the displacement of most of the 2.1 million population of gas, seizing the entire territory and taking control of humanitarian aid after a two-month blockade.
They also said the offensive would not start only after the visit of US President Donald Trump to the region next week, giving Hamas what they call a “window of opportunities” to agree to a deal.
Britain, France and the UN have criticized Israel’s new plans.
UN Secretary -General Antonio Guteres expressed anxiety and warned that “this would inevitably lead to countless more killed civilians and the more destruction of gas.”
UN agencies and their partners also condemned Israel’s proposal to provide assistance through private companies in military centers, saying that this would be a violation of the basic humanitarian principles and that they would not cooperate.
