Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of sexual assault in New York after the sentence of sexual crimes in the country was canceled last year.
A panel of seven female and five male jurors discussed for five days in the six -week process before unanimously voted to condemn the disgraced movie tycoon on one of the three points.
The jurors acknowledged him that he was not guilty of an extra charge of sexual assault and had not yet returned a sentence on charges of rape.
The sentence is in addition to a 16-year sentence, which Weinstein has not yet served after being convicted of sexual crimes in Los Angeles.
The process is based on the testimony of three women – former television assistant Miriam Haley, actress Jessica Mann and model Kaja Sokola. All three accused Weinstein of using his power in the entertainment industry to sexually abuse them.
On Wednesday, the jurors found Weinsstein guilty of attacking the d -Ja Haley, but found him guilty of attacking D -Ja Sokola. They have not yet returned a sentence on rape charges, including Da -Man, and plan to resume discussions on Thursday.
The Court of Appeal overturned Weinstein’s previous sentence of sexual crimes in New York last April, finding that the 73-year-old did not receive a fair trial in 2020, as a judge authorized the testimony of women who were charging him beyond the charges.
Weinsstein was then accused of new allegations of sexual assault in the state in September.
In a statement, Weinstein’s spokesman said the process was “fair until we come to the discussions of jurors.”
“More than one juror complained that other jurors had pre -created ideas and used their beliefs about Harvey’s life as evidence of guilt,” the spokesman said. “We believe there are serious appellate issues and they will be studied.”
In the last week, the jury discussions have been struck by tension. On Monday, the previous one accused some jurors of “attacking” other people and trying to change their minds. He said the jurors were considering Weinsstein’s past and other statements outside the sphere of decision -making.
The judge said he would instructions to the jurors only to consider the allegations in the case.
Weinstein – who has cancer and diabetes – stayed at Bellevue Hospital, not at Riker’s Island Prison during the process. He was sitting in a wheelchair for production.
The New York review focused on two women who were charged against Weinsstein for his process in 2020, Da -Man and d -Haley.
He also included new allegations from G -ja Sokola, a former model and actress who accused Weinstein of sexual assault on her when she was 19 years old. The jurors on Wednesday found him guilty of this attack.
Responding to the sentence, Da Sokola said he was “relieved that Harvey Weinstein would be responsible for some of his crimes.”
“Expect ahead was the most difficult thing I did. I owe myself to myself and to the other women who survived it to make sure the world knows what kind of man Harvey Weinstein is.
“Talking was an act of power and allowed me to regain the pride and confidence he tried to take from me,” she added in a statement.
The three women testify for days of sexual abuse, which they claim to have endured from Weinstein’s hands.
All three said they met with Weinsstein when they were young and were looking for opportunities to work in the entertainment industry. He was then forced to get them during private meetings in hotels and homes, women say.
His legal team claims that his sexual encounters with women are all consensus and something like an agreement “Friends with Benefits”.
Weinstein’s attorneys tried to give up women’s reliability, showing warm messages that some of the women exchanged with the movie tycoon after the alleged attacks.
A total of Weinstein has been accused of sexual disorders, attacks and rape of more than 100 women. Although not all reports have led to criminal charges, California’s sentence means that he is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison.
His prosecutors’ decision to go forward and his subsequent conviction in New York, a galvanic movement #Metoo against sexual abuse by powerful men.
Before the allegations against him appeared, Weinstein and his brother Bob were among the best players in Hollywood.
Weinstein is the co-founder of the Miramax movie studio, whose hits included Shakespeare in love, which won the best photo of the Oscar and Pulp Fiction awards.
Weinstein also faces a number of civil cases, including a group of women who have accused him of sexual harassment and rape. The case led to an agreement of $ 19 million (£ 14.2) in 2020.
