The beauty of the podcasting is that anyone can do it. It is a rare medium that it is almost easy to take. And for example, two people do not do it the same way. Open hardware and software solutions for potential podcasters are abundant, so setups ride the USB Skype rigs from NPR studios (after which a kind of default during the epidemic).

This week, we talked to Jodi Avirgan, who co-hosted “Summer album / winter album” With the Frontman of the American Indi Rock Band The Hold Stady, Craig Finn. Each episode argues that Avirgan and Finn argue whether a classic record should be classified as “summer album” or “winter album”.
Avirgan-which hosted for Radiotopia, Ted, FiveThertiat and ESPN before-told us about our favorite podcasting set up. Here he is in his own words:
“Even when I worked on ESPN/FiveThertia, I still had a home recording setup. Since leaving – which matches the epidemic – I made my basement recording studio my main house. This is actually a basement studio apartment kitchen, so some cable off-frame, a fridge (unplug), sink and lots of cabinets behind the screen.
“But I hung a lot of curtains, spread soft things around and put some sound damp panels. I think it’s comfortable now and quite warm-sounding. My mic is an electronic-voyes re27n/d, a $ 500 studio mic.
“To be clear: I don’t make re27 money. When I was hosting 30 for 30 we bought this mic. Three weeks before the epidemic hits I left ESPN and somewhere I wrote them an email that they were to give me the mike back I never got any feedback, and I have been in the last five years. Warm Mike, however, it’s a valamath.
“When I am on the street, I pack an AT-2021-USB+, which plugs directly to my computer and from where I can throw tracking-the bottom of a hotel’s closet, which is a natural habitat of a podcaster.

“I run my mic through Focusorite Scarlet 2 I2, it’s a common but powerful interface that lets me control my mic levels and let me directly control the route on my computer, where I often join people on zoom or reversed. I always record a local backup file using Hindenberg, which I then store in the dropbox. All the roads eventually move to the dropbox.
“The place that I have deviated from the ordinary Podcaster 101 kit is on my headphones. Everyone has Sony MDR -7506 and I’m going through my fair part of them, but I really like Road NTH -100 headphones. They are a bit more comfortable, to look a bit quick and to still the way the padding is not inevitably broken, led to find a small black blade in their ears after tapping.

“Like many podcasters, I am doing more videos lately. I have used the description over the years, but as the audio and video worlds have been integrated, I edit almost all of me at the moment. I make social videos of our conversationThis day“And”Summer album / winter album“But I’m playing on Instagram the main thing.
“I’m doing a series every week where I Try to estimate the title That week’s New Yorker cover, and I recorded that exactly in the description and turned it around 20 minutes using a template I created. Design – I am a big fan. This is extremely versatile, and it is nice to work with a program that podcasters seem a nasty talk about what’s against the protocol.
“I think I had to think about my visual setup. I bought the webcam that the wirecutter recommended, but I really like the appearance of the MacBook camera, so I usually use it. In my background, I have kept some books to prove how I know how to read; A signed photo of George Mikan, about which “Wing A Death A” – and IKEA had $ 28 fake plants.
“I blocked the scene so I don’t think that people can even see that the trees are there; But I would like to know that they are there, and will always be there always because of the plastic ””
