AFPThe head of the Israeli Internal Intelligence Agency of Israel resigned.
Ronnie Bar made the announcement that he would leave his position on June 15 at a memorial event for SHIN BET members who died in service.
He came after he became involved in fierce trade in charges with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who rejected him last month. A challenge before the Supreme Court by the Prosecutor General and the opposition made the detention.
Ronen Bar said he had chosen to announce his resignation on the evening, which, in his words, symbolizes “memory, heroism and sacrifice.”
He said that any civil servant who failed to stop the attacks led by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, who caused the war in Gaza, had to worship their heads “humbly in front of the killed or wounded, or to take hostage.”
EPAOn Sunday, Netanyahu presented a statement in the Supreme Court, in which he accused the lawyer of being a liar.
In his own declaration, Shin Bet chief accused the Prime Minister of requiring excessive personal loyalty and ordered his agency to spy on anti-government protesters.
The confrontation further exposed the deepening gaps in Israeli policy and the society between the right and hard lines that support Netanyahu and the more liberal elements in the country that took the street to protest the government’s movements to restrict the judicial system’s powers for many months before the AFA.
He focuses on the insistence of Netanyahu that he has fired Shin Bet’s head for professional failures.
Bar counters, saying his dismissal was motivated by political and personal reasons.
In his declaration last week, the spy boss said it was “clear” that if there was a constitutional crisis, Netanyahu would expect him to obey the Prime Minister and not the judges.
He also said that Netanyahu had put pressure on him to use the SHIN bet to spy on Israelis leading or providing financial support to anti -government protests.
Many in Israel have reacted with anxiety, saying that this is proof of what seems to be an unprecedented effort to overestimate the powers of the Internal Intelligence Agency.
EPAIn his statement, which functions as a form of refutation, Netanyahu broke out the head of Shin Bet.
“The prosecution that I seemed to seek action against innocent civilians or against non -violent and legal protest during the 2023 protests is an absolute lie,” he said.
Netanyahu also trained his views on the failures of the security of and during the attacks on October 7, saying that the bar carried “massive and direct responsibility” for them and “failed to fail in its role as Chief Bet and lose the confidence of the entire Israeli government in terms of its ability to continue the organization.”
Bar immediately replied in kind in a statement, saying that Netanyahu’s application was “full of inaccuracies, prejudiced quotes and half -truths aimed at bringing things out of context and changing reality.”
EPAThe Supreme Court was facing the work of who to believe – which resignation of a bar may have some extent released in advance.
However, Bar clarified on Monday that it would play a role, if necessary, in any future production.
“The hearing is not in my personal cases, but for the independence of the next leaders of the tibia bet and, of course, I am ready to appear for any procedure that the court may require in this respect in the future,” he said.
The problems that are exposed to the fierce accusations between the two men again turned their attention on the increasing bitterness between the opposite sections of Israeli society.
They are further exacerbated by the ever -increasing line of the fault between those who support Netanyahu and his solid government, wanting to continue the war in Gaza to remove Hamas at all costs, and those who believe the fate of the living Israeli hostages is still held by Hamas, even if it is, even if it is, it should be placed in the first place.
