At least 12 people were killed in Israeli air strikes in the Eastern Beca Valley in Lebanon, says a regional governor.
Seven Syrians, including a family of five, and three Lebanese, were killed when the area was hit by the fara, the Baalbek-Hermel Bachir Stror’s governor wrote to X. The other two deaths were communicated in a st.
Israeli military said they had hit a number of military compounds belonging to the armed group of Hezbollah, including training camps related to its elite Radvan forces.
These were the deadliest blows, as the cessation of the fire ended a year of battle between Israel and Hezbollah, including two months of a comprehensive war that left the group very weakened.
Hezbollah has not yet commented on the attacks, although his television channel Al-Manar said they were violations of both the cessation of the fire and the sovereignty of Lebanon.
The Arabian Defense Forces spokesman (IDF), LT Col Avichae Adraee, told X that strikes on Tuesday have hit several goals of Hezbollah.
“As part of the strikes, military compounds belonging to the Radvan Forces are aimed, where terrorist operational and warehouses used to store combat equipment used by Hezbollah have been identified,” Adra said.
The power of Radvan is the elite command unit of Hezbollah.
IDF said in a separate statement in English that he had killed Radvan’s forces commanders in September 2024 – when an intensive air campaign was launched against Hezbollah and invaded southern Lebanon – and since then the unit has “operated on to restore its capabilities”.
IDF claims that the storage of weapons and military activities of Hezbollah in the Becaa Valley is a “screaming violation of the understanding between Israel and Lebanon and poses a future threat to the State of Israel”.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the strikes had sent a “clear message” to Hezbollah and the Lebanese government, emphasizing that Israel was ready to “respond with maximum force against any attempt to restore” Hezbollane’s military capabilities.
The basis of the fire termination agreement between Israeli and Lebanese governments, mediated by US intermediaries in November, was the full implementation of the UN Security Council resolution 1701, which put an end to the last war in 2006.
Hezbollah was obliged to withdraw his forces to positions north of the Litani River – approximately 30 km (20 miles) from the Israeli border – leaving only the Lebanese army and the peacekeepers of the United Nations, authorized to operate a weapon in the area.
Israel was obliged to fully remove its powers from Lebanon, but he maintained a military presence on five sites to the south, which he considers strategically important.
The agreement also notes that the resolution confirms the previous Security Council calls for “disarmament of all armed groups” in Lebanon.
