Chris Ries and Amy HillJoan Anderson, who introduced the name for the Hula hoop and played an unwavering role in her rise, died at the age of 101.
The former model visits her native Australia from her home in the United States when she noticed groups of people who rotate wooden hoops around their waist.
She was so hypnotized by the growing mania in Australia that she had one of the strange new toys sent to the US.
The 2018 Documentary Hall Girl highlighted Mrs. Anderson’s story that she called it Hula Hoop after Hawaii’s Hip-Swiveling dance, and how she and her husband first showed it to the head of the toy company.
This continued to sell millions and turned into a global sensation – but the couple remained free of charge for their role in the rise.

D -Ja Anderson died on July 14 at a nursing home in Carlsbad, California, living a “wonderful life”, her family said.
He survives two sons, a daughter and six grandchildren. Another son, Carl, died in 2023.
