Actor Jusie Smolet agreed to pay $ 50,000 (£ 37,000) to a charity in Chicago, arranging a case that the city had brought against him for allegations in the lie of a hatred crime.
Chicago police wanted Smolet to pay $ 130,000 to cover the investigation costs, but on Thursday, the Chicago legal department confirmed that the donation would be made instead.
The money will go into the construction of more bridegroom Futures Center for the Arts, an organization that supports the young people in Chicago.
In 2019, Smolet said he was a victim of a racist and homophobic attack. But in a case that he has seen many twists and turns, he is accused of lies with the police. Later, the allegations had been dropped, and Smolet always maintained that it was not a fraud.
A legal department spokesman said: “The city believes that this agreement provides a fair, constructive and categorical resolution that allows all countries to close this six -year -old head and move forward.”
A slab, who is black and gay, claims that two men hit him, called out racial rumors, threw a “chemical” on him, and put a loop around his neck as he walked down the street near his Chicago apartment.
At that time, there was a pouring of support for the actor, with many celebrities making public statements condemning the violence and supported a fuss.
But a few weeks later, he was accused of inventing the whole thing and accused of lies with police.
He was accused of sending a racist letter to himself and paid two $ 3500 brothers to organize the attack.
Smolet was found guilty in 2021, but the sentence was canceled last year.
