LA 2028 Olympics plans an air taxi service for viewers

Viewers can fly through the sky in Los Angeles and escape from the notorious traffic of the city during the 2028 Olympics if the organizers have their way.

The LA28, the committee, loaded with the planning of third summer games in the city, announced a partnership with Archer Aviation to provide a service for air taxes during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The company says it plans to use a fleet of planes to carry fans to and from Mesta, LA28 reported on Thursday.

Flying taxis are a long -standing dream. They were planned to debut in the Paris Games in 2024, but were not certified by Europe at the Air Safety Agency in time.

Similarly, Archer aviation is not yet certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration, which means that the aircraft is not yet ready for commercial use. This is the founder and CEO, he said he hoped to have this key write -off – a type certificate that says it meets the design and safety standards – from the aviation regulator this year.

If they receive certification on time for the 2028 games, air taxis will offer 10-20 minutes of flights to residents and visitors and fly between selected destinations, including several of the largest Olympic places in the region.

It is unclear how much each trip would cost, but the founder and CEO of Archer Aviation Adam Goldstein said he wanted to keep prices comparable to a high -end Uber, according to Los Angeles Times.

Like the popular ride service, customers will be able to request air taxes through an application. The plane can carry up to four people and work like a helicopter in its take -off and landings.

The piloted midnight aircraft is part of a family of vehicles called “Evtols” – which means electric vertical take -off and landing.

Archer, supported by Boeing and United Airlines, is among several Evtol manufacturers who want to change travel in congested urban cities by offering short -distance airline trips.

There have been many obstacles in the industry, including battery density, and none of the aircraft has yet been approved by FAA.

Archer’s midnight aircraft is built with 12 engines and propeller and produces “less noise and emissions than traditional helicopter”, according to the LA28.

Archer Aviation hopes it will be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) “at similar levels of safety as commercial airlines.”

“We want to transform the way people go around Los Angeles and leave an inheritance that shapes the future of transport in America,” says Gn Goldstein in a statement. “There is no better time for this than during the LA28 games.”

Safety, regulations and investment have proved to be a great obstacle for companies trying to introduce flying taxis. Despite the failures and delays, many still believe that they can be the future of transport.

Archer’s aviation remains confident that his plane can reduce the latest trends and see the Olympics in 2028 as a way to introduce them to the world.

The United Kingdom government declared the future of the Flight Action Plan in 2024, predicting that the first flying taxi could fly to the UK until 2026 and become a regular view in the sky.

Earlier, Los Angeles hosted the 1984 and 1932 Olympics, which made it the third time the city hosted the summer games. The city has announced that the 2028 games will not allow cars, a high order after the plans have been reduced to expand the area transit system.
