Former White House employee Steve Bannon predicts rubbing between Pope Leo XIV and President Trump

Catholicism has rarely been more prominent in American politics, as the Trump administration openly covers advisers and employees who proudly say that faith has formed their policy.

But every merits of Americans make America again the great one for the new pope this week quickly dissipated, as the key voices from Donald Trump’s Magi movement have come to a disappointed conclusion: the first American Pope does not seem to be “America First.”

Little is known about the political slopes of Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Presses in Chicago.

He expressed concerns about the poor and immigrants, chose a name that could refer to the liberal liberal church leadership and seems to have supported the Pope of Liberal Pope Francis and criticized the policies of the US president on social media.

But so far, the president said Leo’s choice was a “great honor” for the United States. Still, some of Trump’s most famous supporters were in a hurry to attack Pope Leo, admiring him as a possible challenge for Trump and on the notion that he would follow Pope Francis in areas such as immigration.

“I want to say that this is some kind of dropping out of the jaw,” Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon told the BBC on Friday, talking about Leo’s election.

“It is shocking to me that a person can be selected as the Pope, who had an issue on Twitter and the statements he had against US senior politicians,” said Bannon, a hard -right Trump loyalist, a practitioner Catholic and a former altar boy.

And he predicts that there is definitely a “friction” between Leo and Trump.

Pope’s brother, John Presses, In front of New York Times that he thinks his brother will express his disagreement with the president.

“I know he is not satisfied with what is happening with immigration,” he said. “I know that for a fact. How far it will go with it is just the assumption, but it won’t sit simply. I don’t think it will be silent.”

Recent study data show that about 20% of Americans identify as Catholics, according to the Non -Party Research Center Pew.

About 53% are identified or tilted to the Republican Party, although there are many nuances: the two Catholic presidents of America, John F Kennedy and Joe Biden, were both Democrats. And nearly two -thirds of us Catholics believe that abortions should be legal in all or most circumstances – deviation from the present position of the Church.

The American Catholics also supported Pope Francis: 78% of the respondents in February looked favorably, including the larger part of the Catholic Republicans.

A number of Catholics in the hometown of the new Pope in Chicago on Thursday broadcast disappointment with President Trump and said they were hoping Pope Leo XIV would follow the path of his predecessor.

“We hope he will continue with Francis’ agenda forward,” says Rick Stevens, a New Jersey Catholic deacon, who accidentally visits Chicago when he heard the news.

The American Conference of Catholic Bishops, which leads and coordinates American Catholic activities, celebrates Pope Leo’s election and the message he sends.

“We are certainly glad that the son of this people was chosen by the Cardinals, but we admit that he now belongs to all Catholics and all people with goodwill,” the conference said. “His words are advocating for peace, unity and missionary activity already showing a way forward.”

Although Maga supporters are a small subset of us Catholics, it has enormous access to conservative media and Trump’s ear.

In Bannon’s military room – known for his hard right, pro -thrump bent – one guest after another accumulated criticism of the new pope.

“This man was widely accepted by liberals and progressives,” says Ben Harunwell, a journalist who leads Bannon’s efforts to establish what he calls a “gladiator school” for the Judeo-Christian West “outside Rome.

“He is one of them … He has (Pope) DNA of Francis in him,” Harnuel said.

The brother of the new Pope, Louis Presses, says his brothers have always been dedicated to the church

Jack’s Title, another commentator on Magic, who was recruiting from Rome, was stupid: “This choice of American cardinal was made as an answer as a message to President Trump.”

The complete picture of what led to the choice of Pope Leo on Thursday is still appearing and church decisions are not redirected in American politics. However, observers around the world have exceeded Pope Leo’s social media profiles in search of clues for his slopes and beliefs.

An account of X under his name, with tweets passing back in 2015, sharing links with the Trump approach to immigration and hinting at other political views, such as a tougher control of the weapon.

In February, the account sharply rebuked the US Vice President by posting a link to a piece of opinion, “JD Vance is wrong: Jesus does not ask us to rank our love for others.”

The account also publishes a link to a letter from Pope Francis after colliding with Vance over church doctrine and immigration. Vance – Catholic Converter – had interviewed the Immigration Policy of the Trump Administration.

Vance regularly refers to his faith in defense of the administration, more specially immigration policies, which the White House said it puts “America in the first place.”

“There is a Christian concept that you love your family and then love your neighbor and then love your community, and then love your fellow citizens, and then, then, a priority of the rest of the world. Many of the extreme left has completely turned this,” Vance told Fox News.

But the US Democrats were not spared either on the account, which has more than a decade in positions. They seem to support Catholic employers who refuse to pay for contraceptives through employee health plans, and after the US presidential election in 2016. A publication is linked to an article accusing Democrat Hillary Clinton of ignoring Pro-Life voters.

The BBC asked the Vatican to confirm that the account was Leo but did not receive an answer.

Vice-President Vance told the conservative operator Hugh Hewitt On Friday: “I’m trying not to play the politicization of the Pope’s game.

“I am sure he will say many things I love.

The LGBTQ views of the new pope are also unclear, but some groups, including the Conservative Cardinals College, believe that it may be less supportive than Pope Francis.

Matt Walsh, a commentator on the conservative Daily Wire, writes: “There are some good signs and bad signs with this new pope. I want to see what he really does with his papacy before I review some kind of judgment.”

But some of Maga’s most profitable supporters have already decided.

Laura Lomer, a far -right influence that has Trump’s ear, is swinging the president of the best staff decisionsThe new pope “Anti-Trump, Anti-Mag, Border Borders and Total Marxist as Pope Francis”.

Bannon, who had offered Leo as a dark horse for the papacy, predicts tension between the White House and the Vatican – and said they could even tear the American Catholics.

“Remember that President Trump was not ashamed to take a shot at Pope Francis,” he said.

“So, if this pope – who he will do – is trying to come between President Trump and his implementation of the mass deportation program, I would stand up.”
