Thirteen children were killed last month as a result of severe food shortages at a Sudan -torn -up camp in Eastern Darfur war, medicines said.
The network of doctors in Sudan, a professional organization with members working at the Lagava camp, reports “worsening of humanitarian conditions” and widespread malnutrition – a hunger crisis caused by the 27 -month civil war that has devastated the country.
Located in the town of El-Dine, the settlement is home to at least 7,000 people and is subjected to repeated attacks by armed groups.
The hunger was first identified last year in a camp in the western region of Sudan in Darfur and has since spread to other areas.
On Tuesday, in a statement about Lagava’s camp, the network of doctors in Sudan wrote: “The network calls for the international community and humanitarian organizations to act immediately to provide food and main health to the residents of the camp, especially children and pregnant women.”
El-Daein is the capital of Eastern Darfur, a country fully controlled by the RSF paramilitary forces (RSF), which is fighting the army.
Now, in his third year, the Civil War crippled humanitarian networks, collapsed the economy and destroyed social services. These factors and others have led to a nutritional crisis.
In addition to starvation conditions, help groups warn of a cholera epidemic in Darfur.
The United Nations organization said the diseases of the disease have increased in the city of Tavila, where 1500 serious infections have been reported since June and confirmed that they have been reported by 1500 infections.
The breakdown of water and sewer services, combined with low vaccination, increased the risk of cholera outbreaks, UN said.
Sudan was immersed in a civil war in April 2023 after a vicious fight for power between the army and RSF emerged.
The two rivals were allies – coming to power together in a coup – but they fell over an internationally supported plan to focus on civil government.
This has led to one of the world’s tallest humanitarian crises, tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, more than 12 million have been forced to escape from their homes, and nearly a million are starving.
