MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexico sent firefighters to California on Saturday to help teams battle wildfires that have ravaged parts of Los Angeles.

“The humanitarian aid team is on its way to Los Angeles, California,” Mexican President Claudia Schinbaum said Saturday morning, posting pictures of firefighters holding Mexican and California flags and standing on the runway in front of two planes.

He added, “We are a nation of generosity and solidarity.”

Since Tuesday, six wildfires have ravaged Los Angeles County neighborhoods, killing at least 11 people and damaging or destroying 10,000 buildings. The fee is expected to increase when firefighters are able to conduct door-to-door inspections.
