More than 400 people have been killed in the latest attacks by the RSF paramilitary forces (RSF) in the Darfur region in Sudan, says the UN, citing “credible sources”.

Last week, RSF began an intensive attack and air attack on refugee camps around the city of El-Facher in an attempt to seize the last capital of the state in Darfur, held by their rival, the Sudanese army.

The two feuding countries have been closed in a bloody power struggle since April 2023. This has created the largest humanitarian crisis in the world and forced millions to escape from their homes.

The UN said it had checked 148 murders between Thursday and Saturday, but warned that the fee was much higher.

UN spokesman Rabbi Shamdasani told the BBC that the check process is still ongoing and their number does not include violence on Sunday.

“Reliable sources report more than 400 killed,” said G -ja Shamdasani.

At least nine humanitarian aid workers were among those killed, UN said.

The refugee camps that surround El -Fasher – Zamzim and Abu Shuk – provide temporary homes for more than 700,000 people, many of whom are facing hunger -like conditions.

In a statement published on Saturday, the RSF said it was not responsible for attacks on civilians and that the scenes of murder in Zamzam were organized to discredit his powers.

The next day, the group said it completed a “successful liberation” of the Sudan Army camp. RSF has accused the army of using Zamzam as a “military barracks, and innocent civilians as human shields.”

El-Fasher is the last major city in Darfur under army control and has been siege of RSF in a year. Sudan’s brutal civil war will enter his third year on Tuesday.

The UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk has called on all participating countries to “renew their determination to take meaningful steps towards resolving the conflict.”

Prior to a conference on Tuesday in London, to celebrate the two -year conflict anniversary, the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Lami announced a food package and aid of £ 120 million for Sudan.

He said Sudan’s stability was “vital to our national security.”

The United Kingdom will host the talks together with the African Union and the European Union.
