More than 50,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the war’s start, the health ministry said in Hamas on Sunday.
This number – 50 021 – equals about 2.1% of 2.3 million pre -war population on the territory or about 1 in 50 people.
A total of 113 274 others were injured for the same period, the health ministry said.
In the past, the numbers of the Gaza Ministry of Health (MH) were widely used in times of conflict and were seen as reliable by the UN and international institutions. But Israel constantly denied data published by Gaza’s authorities.
International journalists, including the BBC, are blocked by Israel to enter the gas independently, so they are unable to check the numbers from both sides.
The numbers published by the Ministry of Health for the number of people killed do not differ between civilians and fighters.
The war was caused by Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, in which about 1,200 people, mainly civilians, were killed and 251 other hostages taken.
Israel responded to the attack on October 7 with a large -scale military offensive, which caused huge destruction of homes and infrastructure, in addition to 50,000 dead.
