Former Chief Judge of the Supreme Court of Nepal Sushila Karki became the temporary prime minister after the deadly protests to combat corruption discarded the government.
The 73 -year -old Carki swore during a short ceremony, becoming the first woman to lead the impoverished Himalayan nation after a deal with protest leaders was reached.
More than 50 people were killed in clashes with Riot Police this week, mass protests caused by a ban on social media platforms.
The ban was canceled on Monday – but until then the protests swelled in a mass movement. The angry crowds set fire to parliament and government buildings in the capital Kathmandu on Tuesday., Forcing Prime Minister KP Sharma Olli to resign.
Earlier on Friday, President Ram, Chandra Poodle’s adviser confirmed to the BBC that Karki would take the oath in the evening.
The agreement between the president and the protest leaders was reached after a few days of consultation. Legal experts also participated.
Parliament was dissolved late on Friday and it was announced that the general elections would be held on March 5 next year. The new government has the task of conducting a vote within six months.
Carci is considered a person with a pure image and is supported by student leaders from the so -called Gen Z to lead the provisional government.
The temporary government that leads will face many challenges – the restoration of the law and the order, the reconstruction of parliament and other key buildings that have been attacked, as well as the soothing protesters of Gen Z who want change – others in Nepal who are afraid of his young democracy and the constitutional order.
Her appointment is the result of a compromise in the conversations this week, which were mediated by the head of Nepal’s army. Proponents of rapturous gene Z express their happiness on social media, and many consider this to be the next step in the new political course that the country wants to take.
Tuesday, Karki He visited the protest site in Kathmandu, where 19 people were killed in clashes with police the previous day. She also met some of the wounded who were treated in hospital.
Kuki was born into a family with close contacts with the political dynasty of Koarala of the largest congress of the Nepalese Congress in the Democratic Party, and later married the then leader party Durga sub -Subborn.
She said her husband’s support played a major role in her trip from a lawyer to Nepal’s chief judge in 2016.
But Kuki is not free from a dispute, and even encountered an incident with impeachment during his almost 11-month term as a chief judge.
Nepal’s army has deployed patrols on the streets of Kathmandu as the country has deviated from its oldest excitement for decades.
The protests were triggered by the government’s decision last week to ban 26 social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook – but they soon expanded to embody a much deeper dissatisfaction with Nepal’s political elite.
During the weeks before the ban, the Breeding Campaign, which screened the magnificent lifestyle of the children of politicians and accusations of corruption, had given way to social media.
And while the ban on social media was quickly raised on Monday night, protests to this stage accumulated an irresistible speed.
