UN ambassadors condemned Israel’s plans to “take control” over Gaza, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted that it was the “best way” to end the war.
During a press conference that Netanyahu stated that he was intended to “break the lies”, the Israeli leader said the planned offensive would move “quite fast” and “free gas from Hamas”.
He also claims that Israeli hostages held in Gaza are “the only ones who are intentionally starved” and denied that Israel was starving.
In the meantime, Israel was seriously criticized by the UN Emergency Council (UN), with the United Kingdom, France and others warning that the plan was at risking “violating international humanitarian law”.
Together with Denmark, Greece and Slovenia, they called for the plan to be turned, adding that “it will do nothing to ensure the return of the hostages and the risks to further endanger their lives.”
Other council members have expressed a similar alarm. China called the “collective punishment” of people in gas unacceptable as Russia warned of “reckless increase in hostilities.”
UN Secretary -General Miroslav Jenka said at the meeting: “If these plans are fulfilled, they will probably cause another disaster in gas, reflected throughout the region and cause more forced displacement, murder and destruction.”
Ramesh Rajashm of the UN Humanitarian Cabinet said the Gaza Hunger Crisis is no longer outlined, adding that “it’s starvation, clean and simple.”
But the United States defended Israel, with Ambassador Dorothy Shee told the meeting that the United States is working “tirelessly” to free hostages and end the war, and the meeting undermines these efforts.
She added that the war “could end today if Hamas released the hostages” and accused other members of taking advantage of the meeting to “blame Israel in genocide”, a statement that insisted that it was “demonstratively incorrect”.
Later on Sunday, Netanyahu’s cabinet said he was talking to US President Donald Trump about Israel’s plans.
Thousands of protesters also went out to the street through Israel To oppose the government’s plan, the fears that he puts the life of hostages at risk.
In his pressure, Netanyahu said the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had been instructed to dismantle “remaining Hamas fortresses” in Gaza and the central area around Al Mavasi.
It also outlined a three -step plan to increase the aid in gas, including the determination of safe corridors for the spread of humanitarian aid and more air drops from Israeli forces and other partners.
It will also include an increase in the number of safe distribution points managed by the controversial Humanitarian Foundation of Gazan (GHF), supported by Israel.
The UN reported earlier this month that 1373 Palestinians had been killed, seeking food from the end of May when GHF created places to distribute help.
Netanyahu claims that Hamas was “forcibly looted the trucks for help” and when asked about the Palestinians killed at GHF objects, he said that “a lot of shot were made by Hamas.”
Asked about the rest of the Israeli hostages in Gaza – 20 of which are still thought to be alive – Netanyahu said, “If we do nothing, we will not take them out.”
The Israeli leader also turned to the international press, saying she bought in Hamas’s propaganda. He marks some of the photos of malnourished children in Gaza who have moved on the front pages of newspapers around the world as “fake”.
Throughout the war, Israel did not allow international journalists in Gaza to report freely. But Netanyahu said a directive that tells the military to introduce foreign journalists has been for two days.
As of Saturday, five people have been killed as a result of hunger and malnutrition in Gaza, leading the total number of 217 deaths, according to the Hamas Health Ministry.
He also said a total of over 61,000 people were killed as a result of Israel’s military campaign in 2023.
Israel began its offensive in response to an attack, led by Hamas against southern Israel on October 7 of the same year, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.
In the past, the figures of the health ministry, run by Hamas, were widely used in times of conflict and were seen as reliable by the UN and other international organizations.
