Rescue workers in Northern Nigeria are still looking for about 25 missing passengers after a boat incident in Soko on Sunday, a local advisor said.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the boat carries more than 50 people to a local market when it was transferred to the Goronio River.
Amino Barra, an adviser to the juice, said 25 people were discovered alive as the rescue efforts continue on Monday.
Earlier, NEMA said it “intensifies its efforts with local authorities to find (these) is still missing.” Boat accidents occur regularly in Nigeria due to overcrowding, poorly maintained boats and failure to apply safety rules.
In December 2024, 54 bodies have been restored from the Niger River After a boat that may have wore over 200 passengers covered.
A month earlier, wooden land canoe filled with nearly 300 passengers, overturned and sunk in the middle of Niger, killing nearly 200 people.
In another incident that earned a lot of attention, More than 100 people drowned two years ago in the southwestern part of the country.
The court they were in were wore about 300 passengers traveling from the State of the State of Niger after a wedding holiday.
According to government provisions, all passengers should wear rescue vests, but they are not always available, especially in rural areas.
