Nigerians struck by abbreviations in American visa, duration

The United States has announced extensive changes to their non -hummilitary visa policy for Nigeria, reducing the duration and conditions under which most Nigerian travelers can enter the country.

On July 8, the US State Department says that almost all non -immigrant and non -diplomatic visas issued to Nigerian citizens will already be one -off and valid in just three months.

It says it is part of the global reciprocity adjustment, a sharp displacement from previous visa conditions, which often allows many records for two or more years.

Nigeria also offers one -time visas, valid in just three months only for those who plan to visit the country from the United States.

The Nigerian government has not yet commented.

The State Department says that visas policies remain “provided that a current review” and may change depending on the developing diplomatic, security and immigration indicators.

In a statement, the US government said it was working closely with Nigerian authorities to ensure that the country meets key international standards.

These include:

  • Issuing secure travel documents
  • Visa exceeding
  • Sharing security or penalties for public safety purposes

The United States has also ordered the social media account of all foreigners applying for visas, including Nigeria, to be checked for “any indications of hostility to citizens, culture, government, institutions or principles of the foundation of the United States.”

The Nigerians report one of the largest number of applications for the US student in the world.
