EPANorth Korea says it has successfully resumed its new 5,000-ton naval destroyer, less than a month after it has been overcome during the first start-up attempt, state media reports.
The country’s leader Kim Jong Un had reacted furiously to the warship Failed to start In May, he wanted to be repaired quickly.
At least four employees – Three employees of the shipyard and one senior employee – have since been arrested for the incident.
State media say the ship has already been completely restored. But given how quickly it was resumed, experts question whether the repairs are really completed.
Kim and his daughter, Kim Ju Ae, leads the start of Tuesday at the port of Rajin in the northern part of the country, according to KCNA, who posted pictures of them at the event.
This warship is one of the two brand new 5,000 tonnes of naval destroyers, which North Korea has built in the last year and has started in April.
Now they are the largest ships that Pyongyang has in their fleet and are capable of firing nuclear weapons.
Kim made a priority to develop a nuclear armed fleet and says he plans to build two more of these destroyers next year.
ReutersSatellite photos in the last few weeks showed the capacity of the ship in the harbor before being moved to a repair site, and then to recharge in the waterbefore it was moored on the pier.
According to KCNA, Kim spoke at the event on Friday, saying that the initial unsuccessful start had not returned the military modernization program to the north.
“Soon, enemies will experience how provocatively and unpleasant it is to sit and watch the ships of an opponent that grows along the border of sovereign waters,” he quoted.
