“It is intriguing to experience something as familiar as a beach resort that is shaped in the unique cultural context of North Korea.”

KCNA described the development of Wonsan as “a great, favorable event throughout the country” and called it a “prelude to the new era” in tourism.

It was initially planned to open in October 2019, but came across delays in construction before the pandemic impact.

Kim attended a ceremony to celebrate his completion on June 24, accompanied by his daughter Kim Ju Ae and his wife, Ra Sol Ju. He celebrated the first public appearance of RI after a New Year’s Eve event.
