One killed and at least six wounded in mass piercing

One person has died and at least six other injured in a mass piercing attack in Canada, police say.

The suspect was also killed in the attack on Thursday in the community of the first nations in the province of Manitoba, according to the Royal Canadian police (RCMP).

The incident described by police as the Mass Casualties event consisted in hollow water first nation, about 200 km (124 miles) northeast of Winnipeg.

Eight people have been transported either from air or ambulance to local hospitals, the BBC told the BBC. They arrived with various injuries, a spokesman said.

The star ambulance confirmed that on Thursday morning, she responded to an emergency situation at The Hollow Water First Nation and flew two patients at the Winnipeg Health Center.

There are currently few details of the incident are available. RCMP will hold a press conference at 14:00 local time (19:00 GMT).

Manitoba RCMP warned the residents of Hollow Water First Nation on Thursday morning that they should expect a heavy police presence in the community throughout the day.

It says there is no current risk to public safety.

“Our sincere condolences to everyone in the community of the hollow water first nation and of all who have been affected by this pointless act of violence,” RCMP said.

The RCMP basic crime department will lead the investigation.

In a letter to the residents, published online, the Chief of the Holo River and the Council offered to their condolences those “affected by this tragedy”.

The Anishinaab community has a small population of several hundred people.

The attack happened on the third anniversary of a mass piercing in James Smith Crown and the nearby village of Weldon, in the province of Saskachewan, which killed 11 people and many other injured.

The suspect in this stabbing died shortly after police arrested him after a three -day manipulator.
