Ozi Osborne, who died at the age of 76, helped to eradicate the sound, which became known as heavy metal – and on top of that, the frontman practically came up with the image of the wild rock star.

The Ozzy Black Sabbath band made an indelible mark on the music of pioneer heavy metal – and was welcomed as a great influence by a number of artists who followed them.

With his vocal style and reputation as Prince of Darkness, Ozzie made the group become global stars – before being fired mainly on his growing drug and alcohol addiction.

But he brought out a successful solo career before reuniting with the band, as well as becoming the incredible star of hit television reality shows show that showed his chaotic home life.

Music transforms Osborne’s life after a difficult start at school

He was born John Michael Osburn in the Aston area in Birmingham on December 3, 1948. His father Jack is a tool manufacturer while his mother Lillian worked at the Lucas factory, which makes automotive components.

He nicknamed Ozzy in the primary school and he remained.

In addition to giving him his coin, the school was a gloomy experience for the young Osburn. He suffers from dyslexia and what will now be called attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD).

He left 15 and wandered into a series of dead end, including some time spent working in a slaughterhouse, which allowed him to play practically jokes in the pubs, placing the eyeballs of cows in people’s writing.

He even turned his hand to crime, but found out that he was also little luck. TV fell on him as he was growing a house, and later spent six weeks in prison in Winston Green in Birmingham after robbing a clothing store.

Gathered again

What saved him was the music: the sound of the Beatles singing, she loves you from a crack transistor radio, transformed his life.

“It was such an incredible explosion of happiness and hope,” he said later to the writer Brian Appleard. “Before I dreamed – wouldn’t it be great if Paul McCartney married my sister.”

He convinced his father to buy him a microphone and amplifier and, together with a friend Terry ‘Geezer’ Butler, formed a group called Rare Breed – which continued only two performances.

The couple became part of blues clothing named Polka Tulk Blues, later renamed the ground, along with guitarist Tony I imi and drummer Bill Ward.

The band, which intends to do what they called “terrible music” rehearsed in a room against local cinema – where the screening of the horror film of 1963, Black Saturday, gave birth to the band’s name for the first time.

“I have not invented such music,” Ozzie recalled later. “When I look back at this song, Black Sabbath, I think how did I even start thinking about such a tune?”

Masterpiece

The song, written by Osburn and Butler, opened its 1970 debut album, which, despite the musical critics maraze, reached number eight in the United Kingdom charts and number 23 in the United States.

Further success was a series of best-selling albums, including Paranoid, Master of Reality and Volume 4, all of which sold more than a million copies.

By the time the group released Bloody Sabbath Saturday in 1973, even critics began to praise them.

Behind the scenes, the Ozi group’s relationship was destroyed

A writer described it as a “masterpiece” and continued to say that he believed that the group had discovered a newly discovered sense of finesse and maturity.

The 1975 album Sabotage also received critical praise, but at that time the band began to unravel and Black Sabbath were destined to lose their momentum.

Osborne was already beginning to succumb to the drink and drugs that would dominate his life. His unreliability became legendary and began to Irk Colleagues from Black Sabbath.

Family life was also under pressure, with his dependencies, deeds and frequent tours threatening his relationship with his wife Telma and their two children. Later, the couple will split.

Unfairly

Osborne has always covered his uncertainty by acting as a clown of the group, but so far his fictions are seriously hindering the development of Sabbath.

His relationship with imi was never smooth, and Ozzie began to resent what he saw as the domination of the guitarist of the group.

In 1978, he spent three months working on a solo project called Blizzard of Ozz, but returned on Saturday to record the Never Say Die album.

After an uncomfortable tour, Osburn was fired by other Sabbath members based on his drug abuse replaced by Ronnie James Dio.

Later, Osborne claims that his dismissal was unfair, arguing: “We were all as bad as one another.”

The problem was that Ozzie was not so good at working with the effects of countless substances in which the whole group was given.

He resurrects Blizzard of Ozz with the help of Sharon Arden, daughter of Black Sabbath Don Arden manager. Later, the couple will marry and continue to have three children – Amy, Kelly and Jack.

She also tried to help him control the intake of drinks and drugs. There were periods when he seemed to be kicking his addictions – but he often falls from the wagon.

An unhappy bat – and pigeons

“If it wasn’t for Sharon,” he later told Appleyard, “I would have been dead for a long time.”

The dispute has never been far away. The most famous incident was the bite of a live bat head while on stage in Iowa in 1982. He catapulted the raw meat in the audience on a tour, which made fans throw things on stage in return. He claims he thinks the bat is fake before it bits.

He did not try to use the same apology for the two pigeons whose heads bitten during the Label meeting in the previous year.

His other exploits included the arrest of urinating the Texas War of Alamo while wearing one of Sharon’s dresses; thrown out of the Dachau concentration camp to be drunk and disorderly on while on visit during a German tour; Pulling a drummer on the black Saturday while on a bad acid trip; blackening and awakening in the central booking of the highway with 12 strips; And it kills the residents of his chicken cop with a gun, sword and gasoline as you wear a bathrobe and a pair of wells.

All this added the legend of Ozzy, but in reality the greater part of his behavior was not very attractive or glamorous. He was a wreck, and the drink and drugs gave him a personality to Jekyll and Hyde.

In 1989, he woke up to prison to be told that he had been arrested on suspicion of an attempt to murder Sharon. She couldn’t remember anything about it. She released the fees.

In the meantime, his first solo album went platinum, and the subsequent actions, a log of crazy and the bark of the moon, were also the best-selling.

He toured widely in the 1980s and 90s, as well as achieved huge commercial success with Ozzfest, a series of tours, mainly in the United States, which included groups in all genres of metal.

Osborne topped most festivals and even had appearances by his former Black Sabbath roommates.

Then in 2002, he and his family were catapulted to a new form of glory when they involuntarily pioneer reality TV, while the cameras caught the unscrupulous (but attached) dysfunction of their home life.

Order

This was a huge success, although American broadcasts were highly censored to eliminate the frequent Osborne’s profitations – something that is not considered necessary when the show airs in the UK.

At the same time, Osborne continued to record – but he was forced to rest in 2003 when he fell from a four bicycle and suffered serious injuries.

It was as he was recovering to the hospital that he topped the United Kingdom charts for the first time, with a recording of changes to the Black Sabbath song, to which he sings a duet with daughter Kelly.

Black Sabbath reunited at regular intervals, and in 2013 returned to the top of the UK album chart – 43 years after their last number one, Paranoid.

In 2018, he claims to have dumped alcohol and drugs and will be diverted to his tour.

“Now I have grandchildren and I’m 70 years old and I don’t want to be dead in a hotel room somewhere,” he told a journalist while promoting Ozzfest the same year.

However, he had other health problems to fight. At first, he thought that the shaking in his hands was the result of his life of excess. But in 2007 he was diagonized with a condition called Parkinson’s syndrome, then in 2019 with Parkinson’s disease.

He suffered damage from the spine in a late night that year, which worsened the injury it received during the four -legged crash. Repeated operations have had limited success.

But he was determined to worship the public with the usual blow.

He, Sharon and his old Black Sabbath roommates arranged a farewell concert at the Villa Park football stadium, throwing a stone from his childhood home, which took place a little over two weeks ago.

An array of fellow rock legends – including Metallica, Guns N ‘Roses and Aerosmith Steven Tyler – are arranged to perform and pay tribute to it and the influence of Sabbath.

Osborne himself sat sitting because of his mobility problems, but managed to regain his old magic – throwing his hits while clapping, waving his hands and pulling his eyes with wild eyes, just like old times.

“I am proud of what has been achieved by my life,” he once told an interviewer. “You couldn’t write my life story if you were the best writer in the world.”
