Panic after explosive leaves 29 students killed in Banggi

Twenty -nine children who passed their school exams in the Central African Republic were killed in a crush after a panic sparked an explosion, a hospital director told the BBC.

The explosion, on the second day of the finals of the high school on Wednesday, happened at an electric transformer, said Abel Asi of the Bangi Hospital.

“The noise of the smoke combined,” caused an alarm among nearly 6,000 students sitting at a bachelor’s degree in the capital, Bangui, the local NDEKE LUKA radio station, reported.

President Faustin-Archanga Tuader has announced a national mourning period.

He also ordered more than 280 that were injured in crushing to receive free hospital treatment.

Students from five different schools in the capital had gone to Lycée Barthélémy Boganda to pass the bachelor’s degree exam.

The car continues to face political instability and security challenges.
