ReutersUS Secretary of Defense Pete Heget fired the Pentagon Intelligence Agency chief, just weeks after the White House rebuked an inspection that evaluates the effects of US strikes on Iran.
Gen Gen Jeffry Kruse will no longer serve as head of the US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), a Pentagon announcement said. The other two senior military commanders were also removed from the Pentagon.
The Ministry of Defense did not offer an immediate explanation for the shooting.
In June, President Donald Trump He had pressed back Strongly on an expired Dia report, which found that attacks against Iran had returned their nuclear program for only months. The White House has announced the assessment of the Agency “Equalizes Wrong.”
Trump has announced the nuclear sites in Iran “fully destroyed” and accused the media of “attempted humiliation of one of the most successful military strikes in history.”
When talking at the NATO summit at that time, Heget had said that the report was made at “low intelligence” and that the FBI was studying the leak.
Cruz’s outcome was first reported by The Washington Post.
Dia is part of the Pentagon and specializes in military intelligence to support operations. It collects large quantities of technical intelligence, but differs from other agencies like the CIA.
Of course, Heget also ordered the removal of the head of the US Navy and the commander of the Navy Command of Special Wars, an anonymous source told Reuters on Friday.
In a statement, US Senator Mark Warner warned that Cruz’s dismissal was a sign that Trump had a “dangerous habit of treating intelligence as a loyalty test rather than a protection for our country.”
Trump has eliminated a number of employees whose analysis shows that he is contrary to the president.
In July, Trump said he had ordered his team to reject the labor statistics Eric Mactarfer “immediately” after the report showed that workplace growth was slowing down.
And in April, Trump fired General Timothy Hau as director of the National Security Agency, along with more than a dozen employees of the White House National Security Council.
Heget also pushed a number of military officials in the Pentagon. In February, he fired General CQ Brown, who was fired with five other admirals and generals.
