Police released the first images of what they believe is one of many campsites where New Zealand’s father has been hiding with his three children for years.

Two of Tom Phillips’ children were found at the site in the Waikato area on Monday, hours after he was killed in a shootout with police.

Police found them with the help of the third child who was with Phillips when he died. They said the children are doing well, but they would take time to recover from the test.

Shortly before Christmas in 2021, Phillips disappeared with his children – Jade, Maverick and Ember, then at the age of eight, seven and five. Police believe he did it after losing legal custody of them.

Phillips had no “no relevant” about the safety of the children and “literally literally put (them) of harm,” police commissioner Richard Chambers told the media on Tuesday, adding that they are now taking care of the authorities.

Hiding a firearm and ammunition were also found in a campsite, which is surrounded by dense vegetation. Two squares of the bikes are in the picture parked in trees.

By the time the authorities arrived at the scene, the search for the two children was under about 12 hours.

In the early hours of Monday, police responded to a report on a burglary attempt at a farm supply store in the small town of Piopio. And there they entered a skirmish with G -H PhillipsS The officer was seriously injured after Phillips fired at him with a powerful rifle. G -N Chambers said the police had “absolutely no doubt” that it was intended to kill the officer.

The wounded officer has undergone a series of operations, but there is still a long way to recover in front of him, said G -N Chambers.

Phillips’ case has gripped New Zealand since he became the fugitive nearly four years ago, and although Monday’s events suggest that the mystery is over, police are still looking for answers.

They are trying to understand how Phillips, who is thought to be at the end of his 30s this year, avoids capture, despite national demand and numerous observations -and, most importantly, how he is able to access firearms.

Tuesday did not deal with reporters’ questions on Tuesday whether the mother of children, known in news reports only as CAT, and members of the extended Phillips family are related to children.

“Our priority is to make sure that these children are taking care and that there is a careful plan, all of which join the right time,” said police minister Mark Mitchell.

“They have seen and have been exposed to things that the children in our country should not be.”

Warwick Morehu of the Children of Children for Children in New Zealand added: “These children will be provided with any help or assistance they need, as long as they need it.”

On Monday, the mother of the children was quoted by the local media RNZ, saying that she was “deeply relieved” that “this ordeal is over” after she misses her children “every day for nearly four years”.

But she continued: “We are saddened by how events are developing today.”
